I’m still alive. You wouldn’t know it from the lack of blog posts
(geez, the last one was September of 2013!) but I can assure you that I am.
Unless, of course, you are reading this sometime in the distant future, and
then I might really be dead. Whoa. Dude…
It’s been
another year of feverish editing. The current book (like Gasher Creek) has
managed to stretch itself out much further than I ever would have expected. And
while I still have another draft ahead of me, I’m hoping it will be a
“polishing” draft. With any luck, the major edits are behind me, and you’ll
have a chance to read it around November.
I’m hoping
people dig it. Fans of Gasher Creek will find themselves reading a very
different story in a very different genre. Have I decided to switch genres?
Nah, I never had a dedicated one in the first place. I hope I never do. GC wanted
to be a western, and LP wants to be sci-fi. After that, I’ll be diving into
historical fiction. A little bit for everyone, I suppose.
But fans of
westerns, don’t lose hope. A western novella is coming your way. It’s going to
be a very, very, very, odd story. But if you’ve read Gasher Creek, then you know that I like a little oddness in my stories. Odd is fun!
So that’s
it? A new book, that’s what I’ve been working on? Nope, there’s more. I have
big plans, kids.
Here’s what’s coming in the fall:
1. A new webpage
2. A hard copy of Gasher Creek (with
art by the awesome and amazing and endlessly talented Tracy McCusker)
3. Gasher Creek the audio book? I hope
so.
Plus—whoa—a
podcast. Yup. You’ll actually be able to hear my wacky Canadian accent on a bi-weekly
basis. It’s an idea I’ve had for a while now, and the greatest part about
it (besides the wacky Canadian accent) is that it will serve as a
cross-promotional tool for other independent writers. I've loved being a voice of encouragement on Twitter, and I want to expand on that. The Internet holds unlimited promise for a new generation of writers, but we must help each other if we are going to be successful. This will be my contribution.
